Thanks to Matt Riiska for highlighting WIN Weekend in last month’s Selectman’s Corner. In turn, I would like to highlight and thank the “band of volunteers” who make it all happen. First there are the others on the WIN committee—Ned Barron, Michael Cobb and John DeShazo—who actively brainstorm, plan, help recruit events, haul chairs and tents, and lend a helping hand anywhere one is needed. In addition, Ned puts out and collects all WIN’s signs including the yellow ones that mark the many WIN venues around town, John is WIN’s sound and technical guru, and Michael recruits and schedules the musicians.
Former committee members Larry Hannifin, Tom McGowan, Jennifer Pfaltz and Valerie Johnson also gave their time to help plan and recruit events (and Valerie’s name may be familiar to many as the person who organized the WINbassadors and WINformation center).
That’s certainly not everyone, though. WIN cofounders Ruth Melville and Holly Gill are still pitching in, as have many other individuals. The team at the Norfolk Hub does an awesome job of making sure the information center is open and ready for anything throughout the weekend, in addition to putting on events of their own. Many townspeople have volunteered their time to sit at the information desk to greet and help visitors. The town crew helps Joe Hurst put up WIN’s festive pennants. And so many organizations and individuals have contributed by putting on interesting, fun events that it would be impossible to list them all.
