NORFOLK REMEMBERS
Peter Brown
Peter Brown, 70 years old, of East Canaan passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, in his home. He was the loving husband of Sandra Brown.
Peter was born on December 27, 1955, at Sharon Hospital to Abraham “Bucky” Brown and Rosalie Freund Brown. He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Northwestern Community College.
Peter worked at Lone Oak Campsites, the family business, since its inception in 1964. In 1993, he and his brother Barry bought the campground from Bucky. They ran it together until 2024. He loved doing the hayrides with the kids (known as the “Hi Peter Club”), his charity motorcycle rides, and chitchatting with the campers.
For decades, Peter Brown helped shape what Lone Oak Campsites became for so many people—a place families returned to year after year, generation after generation—where kids grew up riding bikes until dark, where lifelong friendships were formed around campfires, and where traditions became part of people’s lives.
Peter’s impact extended far beyond the campground itself. Through his Wishes on Wheels charity ride for Make-A-Wish Foundation and countless community-driven events over the years, he helped turn Lone Oak into a place where giving back became part of the tradition. What started as campground fundraisers and charity rides became something much bigger, a community coming together to help children and families facing unimaginable challenges. Peter understood that the memories made at Lone Oak could also be used to make a difference in the lives of others, and that spirit of generosity became part of the campground’s identity for generations of campers.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a love of motorcycles with his son Cooper and music with his daughter Somer. With Sandra, his best friend, he shared everything.

He is survived by Sandra, Cooper, Somer, and daughter-in-law Melissa, as well as his two grandsons, Mason and Riley, his brother Barry, sister-in-law Jacolyn, and sister Lori.
Calling hours were held at Kenny Funeral Homes, 41 Main Street, Sharon, Connecticut, on Saturday, May 23.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Make-A-Wish Connecticut.Obituary information courtesy of Kenny Funeral Home and Lone Oak Campsites.
