Volunteers Needed for Botelle Native Plants Restoration Project

By Becky Eaton

The Norfolk Conservation Commission is seeking volunteers for the next phase of restoring native plants at Botelle School. A work party is planned for Saturday, June 6 to begin the summer process.

Last fall, volunteers—special thanks to Phil Lovett and his equipment—removed invasive plants across the school’s property. This spring, Norfolk’s Public Works crew members cleared invasive honeysuckle along the playground edge, and that area is now ready for planting.

For the June work party, commission member and Ginger Creek Nursery owner Nash Pradhan have arranged a donation of native shrubs. Holly Kempner has kindly invited volunteers to her Lime Rock property to dig up healthy shrubs under Pradhan’s guidance. People who step up to volunteer will be rewarded with a shrub and the good feeling from supporting efforts to restore biodiversity at Botelle.

The group will meet in Station Place, will depart between 8 and 8:30 a.m. and work until about noon. Please bring a shovel, sun hat, and water. Snacks will be provided. To join, email nccinvasives@ gmail.com or leave your contact information at (860) 542-6995. Details will follow
