Wendy Costa Photographs at the Library

Photographs by Wendy Johnson Costa will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of September in an exhibition entitled “Fragile Beauty.” A resident of Goshen, Wendy uses digital infrared photography to bring attention to nature’s beauty and its fragile state. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates. Wendy will give an artist’s talk on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m., at the library.

8th Annual Bocce Tournament

On Sunday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m., Ten Station Place, LLC will host a day of bocce and pizza. Eight teams of four will compete for their name on the Fence of Fame. Mindset Tools for a Healthy Life with Miranda Lee

Learn how to use mindset tools in your daily life as Miranda Lee resumes her weekly mindfulness classes via Zoom on Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m., beginning Sept. 12. Morticulture: The Role Dead and Dying Trees Play in our Ecosystem

The Norfolk Conservation Commission and the Norfolk Nature Alliance are presenting a talk by naturalist Margery Winters on morticulture, the important role dead and dying trees play in our ecosystem. The talk is at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Hub. Learn how, even as they decay into the forest floor, these trees feed a myriad of creatures and vegetative life! Norfolk Library Cookbook Group

The Cookbook Group will gather with dishes to share at the library on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m., featuring recipes by cookbook author, travel writer and television personality Madhur Jaffrey. Jaffrey is recognized for bringing Indian cuisine to the western hemisphere with her debut cookbook “An Invitation to

Sound Bath/Yoga Nidra at Battell Chapel

Enjoy an hour-long restorative Sound Bath/Yoga Nidra session for integrated guided mediation—Yoga Nidra—and sound healing. These combined practices can help reverse emotional blocks, promote the flow of energy and activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m., at Battell Chapel. The Hartford Circus Fire Presentation
in Colebrook

The Colebrook Historical Society (CHS) will host a “Friday Night Gathering” on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. All are most welcome. The evening will begin with refreshments at the home of the CHS, the Seymour Inn. Circa 7:30 p.m., the gathering will move next door to the Town Hall Meeting Room for a special presentation by the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, “The Hartford Circus Fire.” In this presentation photos and artifacts from the Connecticut Museum’s collection will help tell the stories of that day. Lunch & Learn for Seniors

The Norfolk Library will host a lunch and learn program for seniors on Monday, Sept. 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A light lunch will be served, with lots of time for community connection. Schuyler Thomson will speak about the early history of the Central New England Railroad through Norfolk. He will share stories about why the tracks were laid into Norfolk, how the routes were charted and stories about key individuals involved. This program is limited to 12 adults. Clothes Closet

Open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Clothes Closet at UCC Norfolk is accepting donations of gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. Winter clothing and coats are greatly needed. We are always looking for sweaters to upcycle too. (Sweaters with moth holes or other damage? No problem!) Documentary Film at the Library: They Fight with Cameras

On Saturday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m., the Norfolk Library will screen the film “They Fight with Cameras.” Narrated by Liev Schreiber and produced and directed by Academy Award nominee Nina Rosenblum and Daniel Allentuck, the film recounts the wartime experiences of highly decorated U.S. Army Signal Corps combat cameraman Walter Rosenblum by combining his photographs, never before seen motion picture footage and his recently discovered letters to his first wife. Battell Arts Foundation Youth Scholarships

The Battell Arts Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for local students interested in the arts. Applicants must live in Norfolk or Colebrook, be in grades 4–12, and study an artistic pursuit such as dance, music, theater, creative writing, or visual arts.
