Ambulance Milestones

The Norfolk Lions Club Volunteer Ambulance hit a series of significant milestones in October. On Oct. 17, it celebrated 75 years of service to Norfolk and Colebrook with a festive gathering at Norbrook Farm Brewery. By month’s end, its new Horton ambulance passed state inspection and was ready for service. The celebration, attended by volunteers past and present, regional colleagues and members of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, was a light lift compared to preparing the new ambulance for service, according to Chief Kitty Hickox.

Although the vehicle was delivered in June, it took nearly four months and several trips back to the manufacturer to get all the complex systems working to everyone’s satisfaction. In the interim, Norfolk relied on loaner vehicles from Salisbury and New Hartford. Tony Kiser, president of the William and Mary Greve Foundation, directed a $400,000 grant from the foundation that enabled purchase of the ambulance and a new Strycker stretcher. Kiser, who has long been concerned about access to capital funding in towns like Norfolk, said the foundation “exists for helping out in a situation like this.”

Norfolk Stars Shine

Fiona Padua, Adilyn Keyes and Abigail Bennett, three Norfolk actresses who made their theatrical debut at Botelle Elementary School, have secured roles in “A Night at the Wax Museum,” which will be presented by the Landmark Community Theater in Thomaston. Fiona will portray the legendary pirate queen Madame Ching; Adilyn, will appear as the regal Cleopatra; and Abigail will play Violet Sneed, the owner of the property where the wax museum operates. The performance is Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. For more information and tickets visit www.landmarkcommunitytheatre.org

Changing of the Guard The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department recently held annual elections. After a decade as president, Paul Padua has been succeeded by Martyn Banks and will now serve as vice president. Other officers are as follows: Judy Ludwig, secretary; Angela Hutchins, treasurer; Brian Hutchins, fire chief; Matthew Ludwig, first assistant fire chief; Steven Hutchins, second assistant fire chief and Mike Listorti and Justin Zarzycki, lieutenants. Steve Hinman will serve as exterior officer and Ashley Allyn as the EMS captain with John Hutchins and Gary Bottum serving as mechanics. The board of trustees includes Richard Byrne, Ken Ludwig and Todd Miller. With construction of a new firehouse well underway and a significant anniversary on the horizon, the department has much to celebate.
