Annual Budget Hearing

On April 28, Michael Sconyers, chairman of the Board of Finance, will present the town budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Hall of Flags at Botelle School.

 

 

College Scholarships Available

The Norfolk Connecticut Children’s Foundation offers college scholarships to high school seniors who are Norfolk residents. Complete applications are due no later than May 15, 2014. The application form is available on the NCCF Web site, www.norfolkchildren.com (click on the “Apply for a Grant” tab). One More Winter Farmers Market

Local farmers, bakers and other food producers will bring meat, cheese,

bread and pastry, eggs, maple syrup, jam, pickles, greens, mushrooms and

more to one last winter farmers market on Saturday, April 26. The market

will be held inside Battell Chapel from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendor details and

notice of cancellation (if necessary) will be posted at www.norfolkfarmersmarket.org. The market’s summer season begins on Saturday, May 17.

 

 

Rabies Clinic

Veterinarian Kim Maynard will hold a rabies clinic on Sunday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Firehouse. The fee will be $20, payable only in cash. Dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in a carrier. For more information, call Glen Wheeler, 860-542-6978.

 

 

Reading of Dorothy Parker at the Library

Rosemary Gill will be reading aloud Dorothy Parker’s short story “Here We Are” at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m. Reservations are suggested. Please call 860-542-5075.

 

 

Panel on Housing Choices for Seniors

The Northwest Corner Triad is hosting a panel to help seniors choose the best housing for their needs. Speakers will discuss services, health and safety, community living options, and affordability. This free event will be held on Friday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the Lakeville Town Grove, 42 Ethan Allen Street, in Lakeville. Opening Reception for Artist Jaclyn Conley

On Sunday, April 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., the Norfolk Library will hold the opening reception for an exhibition of new paintings by Jaclyn Conley. Her work will be on display until April 30.

 

 

Workshops and Trail Days at Aton Forest

On April 5 there will be a Vernal Pool Identification and Ecology workshop focusing on amphibian identification and vernal pool location and monitoring. On Trail Work Days, April 12 and 2 (Earth Day), we will be clearing breeding bird survey lines for research in the spring. Panel Discussion on Ukraine

The UN CT Association will hold a panel discussion on Putin and Ukraine at the Kent Memorial Library, 32 N. Main St., in Kent, on April 26, at 2:00 p.m. Panelists will include two retired Russian ambassadors and one American ambassador, along with Peter Vosburgh of Norfolk.

 

 

Family Film and Pizza

April 14 is family movie night at the Norfolk Library. Free pizza will be served at 6:00 p.m. (please make reservations by 3 p.m., by calling 860-542-5075). The film, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” will start at 6:30.
