Democrats To Host Community Picnic
The Norfolk Democratic Town Committee will host a community summer picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Norfolk Curling Club. Democratic candidates for state offices will be available to meet with constituents at the event. Tickets, which are $15 for adults and $8 for children, are available from town committee members.

Farmers Market Agricultural Fair
Norfolk Farmers Market will hold its second Agricultural Fair on August 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Town Hall lawn and we want you to be a big part of it. Enter any or all of our contests: Vegetables, Herbs, Produce Art, Flowers, Baked Goods. See antique farm equipment, soak a local personality in pitch burst, participate in a cake walk with the PTO, have your face painted. Corey Bush & Friends will provide the live music.

Colebrook Historical Society Friday Night Gathering
On Friday evening, August 8, at 7 p.m., the Colebrook Historical Society will host a social reception, followed by a presentation by a former Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Phillip Bainbridge, titled “The Legislative Gauntlet—How Unsavory Is It? You be the Judge!” The gathering will be held at the Colebrook Historical Society, corner of Routes 183 and 182A. All are welcome.

Colebrook Historical Society Presents Ice Cream Social at Rock School House
Drop in at the historic Rock School House, located at the corner of Route 183 and Sandy Brook Road (one mile
north of Colebrook center), on Saturday, August 16 between 3 and 5 p.m. for an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Over the past year, the school house has been beautifully restored. There will be music and a caricature artist—fun for all ages!

Songs of the Irish-Americans
In conjunction with its summer exhibition on Irish-American history in Norfolk, the Norfolk Historical Society presents “Creating a National Identity: Songs of the Irish-Americans,” a musical journey by Rick Spencer. This program will take place at Klauer Hall behind the Catholic Church on Sunday, August 10 at 3 p.m. “Irish Family Folklore: Fact or Fiction, a Memory Event” will follow. Please plan to share your memories of our Irish heritage. Free and open to the public.

Norfolk Senior Citizens—Free and Fun For You
Three opportunities for exercise are available for Norfolk seniors at Meadowbrook. Senior Yoga meets year-round every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:45 a.m. in the Church of Christ dining room. Wendy Larsen is the instructor and the sponsor is the Norfolk Recreation Committee.
Senior Exercise will start up again on Tuesday, September 16 at 11 a.m. in the Meadowbrook community room. Physical trainer is Robyn Centrella and the sponsor is also the Norfolk Recreation Committee.
Golden Groove, a new gentle dance program, will begin on Thursday, September 18 at 3 p.m. at Meadowbrook. Robyn Centrella will instruct this also. This is a new program, requested by Meadowbrook seniors, and is funded by a recently received grant from the United Church of Christ.

Meet New Botelle Administrators
A meet-and-greet to welcome Botelle’s new superintendent, Dr. Mary Beth Iacobelli, and the new principal, Matthew O’Connell, will be held on Wednesday, August 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Botelle Hall of Flags. Refreshments will be served. All community members are invited to attend.

Old Growth Forest and Bog Hike
Take a 30 to 45 minute trek through the Great Mountain Forest (GMF) North Forty woods. Explore the secrets of the old growth forest and black spruce quaking bog, on Saturday, August 30 at 3 p.m. Meet GMF Board President Star Childs along Windrow Road in the area of 100 Windrow to convoy to the hike site. The hike is free, but donations to Great Mountain Forest are welcome. Adults have the option of staying after the hike for Leslie Watkins’s nature journaling group. Barbara Austin Workshops
Barbara Austin returns to Great Mountain Forest to teach two workshops. The first is on natural dyes: participants will learn to use a variety of flowers and plants to make natural dyes and are welcome to bring flowers from their gardens and a t-shirt to dye as well. The second, Paper Making, will use recycled scrap paper and natural materials to make beautiful paper. Adults and children five and up are welcome. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult. The program is free, but donations are welcome to help defray costs. Leopold Bench Workshop
Great Mountain Forest (GMF) Forest Technician Wes Gomez, will conduct a workshop for adults on how to build a Leopold Bench at the GMF’s Childs Center in Falls Village on Saturday, August 23 at 9 a.m. The remarkably simple yet comfortable bench was designed by conservationist Aldo Leopold. Boards for the workshop will be pre-cut from GMF lumber and all hardware is supplied. The fee for the workshop, including the bench kit, is $100. 2014 Ted Byers Conservation Lecture
Tom Zetterson will lecture on the impact and identification of invasive species, touching on early detection, eradication, mapping and management. The lecture will be given this year on August 16 at 4 p.m. at the Doolittle Lake Club House. The event if free and open to the public.
