Wide variety of learning opportunities available

In the Northwest Corner of Connecticut, there is an unusual setting for learning. The Taconic Learning Center (TLC) is a non-profit organization that offers opportunities for learning to area residents. All classes are taught by local people who are experienced and skilled instructors, and all of them are volunteers.

This fall, there are several classes offered, including, Mozart: Prodigy and Genius for music lovers, or The Bawdy Road to Paradise: Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales as well as George Bernard Shaw: Our Contemporary for those who love literature. Courses on Medicine and Money and Latin mix with courses on the Supreme Court, the Cold War, the Apostle Paul, the Federal Reserve and our local Industrial Heritage.

According to TLC board members, “we have something of interest for everyone. Refreshments are served, and it’s always fun.”
Classes are free, but an annual tax-deductible $60 membership contribution helps to defray operating costs. This membership is open to everybody, with no limit on the number of courses one can attend in the academic year.

TLC’s fall two hour classes meet weekly at Noble Horizons in Salisbury or Geer Village in Canaan from mid-September through December, one to two times a week in the morning or afternoon.
