Katherine McClintock, Active Volunteer in Norfolk, Dies
Katherine Gillett McClintock, 93, died on February 9, 2015. She grew up in Pelham Manor, N.Y. and in 1943 married Brower McClintock. They made their home in Bronxville, N.Y., then retired to her family’s longtime summer home in Norfolk, moving in 1993 to Ashlar Village in Wallingford, Conn., where they lived the remainder of their years.
She was educated at Pelham Day School, Miss Hall’s School and Smith College (class of 1943).
Her volunteer activities in Bronxville included the Junior League, the Nondescript Club, the Bronxville School PTA, Boy Scouts of America, and the Reformed Church. In Norfolk, she was a member of, and volunteered for, the Norfolk Library Associates, the Litchfield County University Club, the Norfolk Church of Christ Congregational, the Norfolk-Colebrook Garden Club, the Doolittle Lake Club Board, and the Norfolk Community Association. While living in Wallingford, she was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon.
She and Brower enjoyed traveling, especially small-ship cruises. She also loved gardening, doing needlework, playing tennis and golf, and avidly following the Boston Red Sox. But family came first. She will be missed by the entire family and her many friends, who particularly remember her smile and great wit.
She is survived by three children: Brower McClintock, Jr. of Whitehall, Penn., Martha McClintock Sippel of Annapolis, and Kendall Gillett McClintock of Ludlow, Mass.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband and her siblings, E. Kendall Gillett, Jr., Elizabeth Gillett Day, and Frank Goodnow Gillett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to: The Norfolk Library, P.O. Box 605, Norfolk, Conn. 06058. A celebration of Katherine’s life will be held in the Hartog Auditorium at Ashlar Village, Wallingford, Conn. on March 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kenny Funeral Homes (kennyfuneralhomes.com).
