Norfolk Fire Department to Receive Governor’s Proclamation
In honor of its years of service, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department has been chosen to receive the Governor’s Proclamation on Firefighter Recognition Day. On Friday, September 4, at 6:30 p.m., all members of the department will gather at the firehouse in full dress uniform for a group photograph. Local politicians, reporters and all townspeople are invited to attend. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
What’s It Like to Be on Jeopardy?
On Friday evening, September 11, at 7, the Colebrook Historical Society will host a reception, followed by a presentation by Jim Flynn, “What’s It Like to Be on Jeopardy?” Flynn appeared on the TV show in 1991. “Norfolk: A Documentary,” by Christopher Little
Christopher Little’s film about Norfolk will make its public debut at the library on Saturday, September 19, at 4 p.m. Highlights of the film include stunning aerial views of town shot from a DJI Quadcopter (the same model that crashed on the White House lawn), the installation of the cupola on the Music Shed, curling, sapping at Great Mountain Forest, Christmas on the Green, Tobey Pond, the farmers market, and much more. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served after the film (approximate running time: 35–40 min.), and DVD’s will be for sale.
Taconic Learning Center Begins Fall Semester
TLC will have another exciting semester, with 10 courses on a range of topics, including “The Canterbury Tales,” music of the Gershwin Brothers, Asian philosophy and a film course on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Shakespeare’s Powerful Women: Three Evenings with Three Characters
Kim Maxwell hosts a series of screenings and discussions about Shakespeare’s women starting Monday, September 21, at 7 p.m. Three Shakespeare plays will be paired with popular modern movies: “Romeo and Juliet” with “Shakespeare in Love”; “Merchant of Venice” with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”; and “Macbeth” with “The Graduate.” Clips from the paired movies will be shown before the discussion. The series continues on October 5 and 19.
Norfolk Land Trust Sponsors 5k Trail Race
The Norfolk Land Trust will sponsor its second annual 5k trail Race on Sunday, September 27, at noon in Barbour Woods. Registration is $10; $15 on race day. Housatonic Heritage Walk at GMF
From 1:30 to 2:30 on Sunday afternoon, September 27, Jody Bronson and Charles Canham will lead an interpretive walk, See the Forest Through the Trees, at Great Mountain Forest. Corner Club: Jester Jim
This afterschool program at the Norfolk Library resumes on Wednesday, September 30, at 3:40 p.m. with an out-of-the-ordinary juggling show. With his trunk full of props, a looping machine, and a beat box intro, Jester Jim will take the stage and mesmerize young and old.
