When the town of Norfolk needed a website, Mary Fanette took a course in HTML, the basic building block of all websites. She helped design and build the town site, which she runs and maintains today. “I’m not that skilled,” says Fanette, “but I poke my way around.” Nonetheless, her skills have been sought by the Economic Development Commission, the Coalition for Sound Growth, Norfolk Now, the Farmer’s Market, and the Curling Club, of which she is the current president. “Websites have become such an important way to communicate,” Fanette notes. For her contributions, Fanette has been awarded the 2012 Norfolk Community Service Award. A dinner in Fanette’s honor will be given at Botelle School on Saturday, May 12, at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved in advance by calling 860-542-6054.
