Concert for Two Harpsichords

The playlist includes two “echo” canzonas from the Italian Renaissance, Bach’s Concerto in C, and two improvisational sonatas by Nicolo Pasquini. The performers, who will play a pair of matched instruments made by Norfolk harpsichord maker Carl Dudash, are Mariken Palmboom, who studied in The Hague and Antwerp, and Christine Gevert, who studied in Hamburg and is currently music director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lime Rock, CT. The Palmboom-Gevert Duo will perform at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, May 5 at 5 p.m. Call 860-542-5075 for reservations.

 

The Forest Lyceum: New England’s Stone Walls

Most of the stone walls that once lined roads and fields throughout the northeast are crumbling today, but, according to University of Connecticut professor Robert Thorson, they still contain a rich scientific and cultural story. The lecture, sponsored by Great Mountain Forest, will be held at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, May 12. Birding by Ear
Aton Forest is offering a field workshop on recognizing local birds by their songs and calls. “Birding by Ear,” led by instructor Bob Barbieri, will take place at Aton Forest Headquarters on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, call 860-542-5125 or email contact@atonforest.org.
Cooking Class at Congregational Church
Learn to make homemade ravioli and ricotta with Lisa Auclair and Adair Mali. All are welcome to try this hands-on class and to enjoy a light meal with the results. The $30 donation will benefit the Church of Christ Congregational. Botanizing Field Trip

The Connecticut Botanical Society and Aton Forest are co-sponsoring a botanizing field trip to the Sandy Brook Natural Area Preserve and Algonquin State Forest. The trip, led by Aton Forest Director John Anderson, will start from Colebrook on May 20 at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. For information, call 860-542-5125 or email contact@atonforest.org.
National Trail Day Hike

The Norfolk Land Trust is sponsoring a leisurely hike around Dennis Hill to mark National Trail Day. NLT board member Dennis Collins will lead the hike. Participants should gather wearing sturdy shoes in the parking lot of Dennis Hill in Norfolk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 2.

 

Ninth Annual Men’s Golf Outing

The Immaculate Conception Church, of Norfolk, will be hosting its Ninth Annual Men’s Golf Outing on Wednesday, June 27th, at Quarry View Golf Course, East Canaan, with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. A $95 fee includes: greens fee, cart, refreshments on the course, and a buffet dinner at Geer Village following golf. THE NORFOLK FOOD PANTRY, located at Church of Christ, is in dire need of food to restock its shelves. Basic, easy to prepare items are most popular, such as: canned tuna, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, juices, chicken noodle and tomato soup, pasta and sauces, coffee, tea, powdered milk, mac and cheese, cake and muffin mixes, and condiments. Please, no whole wheat or whole grain pasta,
perishable foods, or outdated items. Thank you for your generosity in responding to this need! Stop & Shop gift cards are also welcome.

The Norfolk Library is accepting donations for its annual book sale in August. Books must be clean and in good condition. They can be dropped off, preferably in a sturdy box, in the outdoor cupboard by the library parking lot. No textbooks, please. Books of greater value should be brought directly inside.
