Scott Shaw Breaks Race Record
Scott Shaw (see profile in July 2015 issue of Norfolk Now) broke the all-time record for the Memorial Day Five-Mile Road Race on May 30. The 20-year-old college student finished the race in 27 minutes and 40 seconds, nearly five minutes faster than the second place time clocked by 35-year-old Casey Smith of Torrington. Shaw shaved 43 seconds off his finish time in last year’s race. Four Norfolkians (including Shaw) finished in the top 10 this year: Robert Dwyer, 35, came in fourth, followed by Henry Tirrell, 27, with a sixth place finish and Ian Robinson, 22, came in ninth place. Also noteworthy in this year’s race was 10-year-old Tyler Schumacher of Colebrook, who placed fifth overall with a time of 33 minutes and 10 seconds.
