Enhancing the Norfolk Food Pantry

As we are in the height of growing season, many local farms are overloaded with various types of produce—tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, greens, corn, etc. The farmers at Husky Meadows Farm on Doolittle Drive are no exception, and a major concern for them is making sure that all of this produce gets utilized by the community. As the result, they will again be donating their excess produce to the local food pantry at the Church of Christ Congregational to serve those in need of fresh, healthy food.

With the help of volunteers, the produce will be available at the food pantry every Wednesday from August 3 to October 12. The food pantry hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is recommended that people in need of fresh produce show up as close to 10 a.m. as possible.

If you are interested in supporting this cause, donations of spices, salts and peppers to the food pantry would be very helpful in the effort to enhance the taste of the vegetables. The church is also accepting any recipe suggestions that might be helpful in teaching others how to utilize the fresh vegetables.
