A Pair of Norfolk Writers Speak at ‘Weekend in Norfolk’ Fest
Novelist Courtney Maum and poet Susannah Lawrence Wood will read from their works at the library on Sunday, August 7, during Weekend in Norfolk. Norfolk Now, the town’s monthly paper, is presenting the event.
Courtney Maum’s first novel “I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You,” was rated a book of the year by Real Simple, Bustle and Flavorwire, and a book of the month by Amazon, iTunes and Library Journal. She writes a satirical humor column, reviews books for Sirens, and has been a literary advice columnist for Tin House Magazine. She also works as a corporate namer and brand strategist for creative agencies across the country. She will be reading from her second novel, “The End of Touch.”
Susannah Lawrence Wood’s publishing credits include The Cortland Review, Nimrod and The MacGuffin. She was a finalist for the Many Voices Poetry Manuscript Contest and her work has appeared in many publications, including the anthology “Where Beach Meets Ocean: Ten Years of the Block Island Poetry Project.” A lifelong environmental activist, she is also the author of the two-volume “Audubon Society Field Guide to the Natural Places of the Mid-Atlantic States.” She will be reading from her recently published book, “Just Above the Bone.”
Weekend in Norfolk, August 5, 6 and 7, is a three-day, town-wide art, music and nature festival. Events run the gamut from art exhibits to nature walks, world-class music to a watermelon-eating contest, a quilt show and boat-building demonstrations to the opportunity to get married on the Village Green, and new events are still being added.
