Indoor Farmers Markets
The Norfolk Farmers Market indoor pre-Thanksgiving market will be held Saturday, November 19, inside Town Hall (19 Maple Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Find cheeses, yogurt, local meats, honey, maple syrup, fall vegetables and fruit, eggs—everything you can imagine for your holiday table!See norfolkfarmersmarket.org for last minute information and a list of vendors. Also, save the date for The Norfolk Farmers Holiday Market, to be held Saturday, December 3, inside Battell Chapel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., an extra hour, with music and all the wonderful things you want for decorating, giving and eating. Featured will be Barnadette’s Bookstore, with local authors and musicians presenting their work. Lunch will be available so you can keep right on shopping… Come see!
Norfolk Merchants’ Holiday Shopping Evening
Downtown Norfolk merchants have set Sunday, December 11, as their second annual Holiday Shopping event, complete with carols and other good cheer. The Boy Scouts will be selling Christmas trees, and restaurants and shops will be extending a warm welcome to all comers. Festivities will begin early and extend into the evening. Watch for more information as plans for Norfolk’s own 2016 holiday celebration develop!
Logging to Begin in Barbour Woods
The Norfolk Land Trust wants to alert hikers that logging activity in Barbour Woods will begin by the end of October. The Lovers Lane entrance will be closed to parking and to foot traffic. A detour will be available on the south side of the stream, but parking will be limited to the roadside. All other access points to Barbour Woods will be open and so will the rest of the trails.
Regional #7 Run Like A Deer 5K Road Race
On Saturday November 5, the fourth Run Like A Deer 5K Road Race will be held in Barkhamsted. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Barkhamsted School, and the race starts at 9:30. It is an out-and-back course along the Farmington River. Proceeds will go to offset the cost of holding the Northwestern High School graduation at the Warner Theater. Registration fee is $20 in advance and $22 on race day. Registration forms are available on the school website, www.nwr7.com. Walgreens will be holding a flu shot clinic before, during and after the race. Most flu shots are free with insurance.
Wine On Ice
The Norfolk Curling Club is holding its 3rd Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Saturday, November 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 70 Golf Drive in Norfolk. The wine tasting is presented by Stateline Wine and Spirits in Canaan and Ledgebrook Spirit Shop in Winsted. There will be a diverse selection of red, white and rosé wines with a range of prices from $12 to $40, as well as craft beers from Little Red Barn Brewers and hand-crafted spirits from Berkshire Mountain Distillers. The event also includes live curling demonstrations by members of the club, delicious hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction featuring a variety of unique items. Tickets may be purchased from curling club members and online at www.norfolkcurlingclub.org. Cost is $30 (advance); $35 (at door). Norfolk Library Independent Film Series
The third in the Norfolk Library Independent Film Series, “Christmas,Again,” will be shown on Saturday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m at the library. The film will be introduced by its writer and director Charles Poekel, with discussion following. This program is free and reservations are requested at norfolklibrary.org
Norfolk Historical Society Museum Activities
The Norfolk Historical Society Museum has closed for the season, but there’s still lots going on. The museum’s Open House is set for Saturday November 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 13 Village Green. Bring your stories, objects and photos about Norfolk in World War I for our 2017 exhibition. And mark your calendars for the Annual Cake Auction benefit on Saturday, December 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. Come buy a gorgeous cake by local bakers for your holiday parties! Annual Carol Sing and Tree Lighting
Please join us on Saturday, November 26 at 5 p.m. as the Norfolk Library rings in the holiday season with our annual Carol Sing. The library’s Christmas tree will be adorned with ornaments handmade by children at the Botelle School. Cider and cookies will be served, and good cheer will abound as we await Santa’s arrival and the lighting of the tree on the village green at 6 p.m.
