Norfolk House Destroyed by Fire

frischdsc_6850lhfirefirstwater72dpiusmA fire consumed the house of Larkin Hasbrouck at 49 Estey Road in Norfolk on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 7. After crawling out of his house to safety, Hasbrouck made his way to the home of his neighbor and friend, Norfolk Now photographer Bruce Frisch, who returned to the site of the fire to document the destruction. The first photograph, above, was taken as the firemen were uncoiling their hoses, but before any water was available. They were called out at 8:27 a.m. The second photograph was taken just as they started wetting the blaze.

Photographs by Bruce Frisch.

Please get this message to Larkin Hasbrouck. Helen Starling Bruke of Manhattan called me in Vermont thinking she was calling Jane and Douglas Duncan. Helen is concerned because Larkin has not answered his phone number and thought Jane (his sister?) might know how to reach him. I don’t think she knows about this fire which I just found on the Internet as I tried to find a connection for her. I hope that Larkin is OK.

    Oh Larkin,

I am glad you are safe, but so sorry for such a frightening devastation.
