Milestones
Died: Stephen Charlton, 74, of Shepard Road, on March 2. The husband of Shirley (Bottum) Charlton, he is also survived by his daughter, Deborah M. Curtiss of Norfolk and two sons, Scott Charlton of Virginia and Gardiner Charlton of New York and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stephen worked with Don Marchand Construction, O&G Industries and the Town of Norfolk and was a long time member of the Canaan Rod & Gun Club. A memorial service was held on March 10 at Battell Chapel, with full military honors.
Died: Edgar B. Clerk, Jr. on March 5. Born in Albany, N.Y. in 1924, he graduated from the Albany Academy and the University of Virginia, and served in the Navy during World War II. Edgar displayed his collection of antique shaker furniture and artifacts at the East Side House winter antique show in New York City for a ten year period. He was a photographer who worked for 17 years as a teacher and darkroom supervisor at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Edgar is survived by Skeet Harman, a cousin, and by his longtime friends, Phillip and Naomi Walsh.
