Letters—May 2017

Keep Norfolk Safe and Clean

In the April 2017 edition of Norfolk Now, a letter appeared explaining that the Economic Development Commission was considering the development of a neighborhood cleanup and watch program. I am pleased to announce that many residents have already responded in a positive way.

Some of you have already been picking up trash, bottles etc. while on your daily walks. The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department has adopted Shepard Road to maintain a clean look, and the Norfolk Land Trust has pledged to keep an eye on Lovers Lane. Again, this is in no way a replacement for Norfolk’s annual cleanup day which was held this year on Earth Day. What a wonderful job they did on the streets they visited.

We are still seeking volunteers as Norfolk has many streets and roads needing attention. We wish to keep this very informal without the volunteers following any regular schedules, but want as many of you as possible to get out and remove items you see in your daily travels. We are all so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place, so let’s all work together to keep Norfolk safe and clean.

If you are willing to spend a small amount of your time patrolling your street or neighborhood and removing any trash, kindly contact Larry Hannafin via email at lhannafin@sbcglobal.net or Libby Borden, Chair of EDC, at libbygp@aol.com.

Sincerely,

Larry Hannafin
