It may seem premature to start thinking about town elections, but with party caucuses taking place in July, now is the time to consider running.  Below is the list of town officials whose terms expire in November:

The Selectmen, Town Treasurer and Tax Collector are the only paid positions in town government.  If you have any questions about what the above positions entail, you may contact one of the following committee chairs for more information:

Board of Assessment Appeals: Louis Barbagallo

Zoning Board of Appeals: Ronald Zanobi

If you are a full-time Norfolk resident and interested in running on a party ticket, you need to contact the town party chairs, Frank Dooley (Democrats) and Schuyler Thomson (Republicans).  The Democratic and Republican parties make their endorsements between July 17th and July 24th, but if you don’t receive your party’s endorsement you can file for a party petition with the local Registrar of Voters (deadline is August 8th).

If you would like to run on a third party ticket, you must apply through the Secretary of State’s office and have the choice of reserving a party name or registering as a general petitioning candidate.

Candidates running by petition must obtain the same number of signatures as one percent of the votes cast for that position in the last election.  If there are two or more people running for the same position, a primary will be held on September 11th.
