Letters to the Editor
A Much Cleaner Town
“Thank You” to the members of our community who turned out on April 28 to help the Norfolk Community Association remove litter from our roads. Winter’s melt had revealed buried debris, which was unusually abundant this year. Litter was collected and deposited at the transfer station. Special thanks goes to all who gave up their busy Saturday schedule to participate in community service. New this year was the bottle and can drive sponsored on the Green by the Botelle sixth grade. Many families saved their “returns” for the day and the students raised $168, representing 3,360 cans and bottles!! When they weren’t collecting bottles and cans, they worked hard at cleaning the nearby streets: Mountain View, Sunset Ridge and the baseball field. Kudos to all! Let’s continue in the clean-up spirit and each of us watch and clean our own roads as the summer progresses.

Irish Music Fundraiser a Success
We would like to offer a warm and hearty thanks to each and every one of you who supported our Irish event, Tommy Flynn and the New York Showband at the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department on Sunday, April 29. It was a great success and we are happy to say as a result we were able to contribute funds in many different areas.
Immaculate Conception Church received a total of $2,500, which will be distributed in areas such as $500 for oil tanks, $500 for tile replacement in Klauer Hall and $1500 for savings.
Our Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, on whom we all depend, and who work tirelessly, passionately and with great dedication on a daily basis for our safety and well-being, received $1,200.
We also were able to go a little further afield and help the Mekele Blind School in Ethiopia. These young people experience sufferings on a daily basis which are beyond belief and imagination. Our $550 will go such a long way to ease a little pain. To ensure all this it will be personally taken care of by our very own Norfolk resident, Chris Hanley.
