A Sudden Storm, and a Power Outage
A brief storm, packing very high winds and plenty of rain, came across Norfolk late in the evening of August 17. Several trees were toppled in the area, including one at Yale. This large maple tree came down on Sunset Ridge, bringing the power and phone lines with it. The tree remained there until late Saturday, when Connecticut Light & Power crews eventually got to the task of clearing it. The workmen were able to restore electricity at about 10 p.m. However, the phone lines remained out overnight. Service was back to normal mid-Sunday morning.
