Selectman’s Corner

By Sue Dyer

The Town of Norfolk is scheduling a full Revaluation of all real estate, as required by Connecticut’s State Statutes. This Revaluation will be for the 2008 Grand List.  Rather than going to great expense for an outside company, the Board of Selectmen has opted to hire Barbara Bigos as our Certified Assessor, to do our Revaluation in-house.  Barbara has over 20 years experience as an assessor and has successfully conducted the revaluation of four other towns in Litchfield County. She is looking forward to working in Norfolk as we are to working with her. Barbara will be doing all the inspections personally.  Beginning this fall, she will be conducting inspections on those houses that have been recently sold, those that are on the market and those that have building permits.  Next spring, she will begin inspecting the remainder of the properties.  The inspections will consist of digital pictures of the exteriors of the building, interior inspections of most buildings as well as a walk around the lot to determine the quality of the site.  Barbara’s vehicle will be clearly marked with large Town of Norfolk signs on both sides.

As the Assessors’ Office will soon be preparing the Motor Vehicle Grand List for October 1, 2007, now would be the appropriate time to return any unused license plates to the Department of Motor Vehicles. To ensure that those vehicles are not taxed on the next grand list, you should make sure that the DMV has your correct mailing address and/or P.O. Box Number.

The Board of Assessment Appeals will be holding a Motor Vehicle Assessment Hearing Only on Saturday, September 15, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Town Hall, for motor vehicles registered in the Town of Norfolk.
