Splish, Splash
Last year the season at Tobey Pond came to a contentious close. This year, however, the season has come to a dignified end. The gate is now shut and officially, at least, there will be no more swimming. But this summer season at the Pond has been a good one, due to the efforts of the town’s recreation committee. “I saw Sue Dyer recently,” says Norfolk’s recreation officer, Sarah Kacasek, “and she told me she has had a good summer because she didn’t get any complaints about the Pond.” Happily for Kacasek, neither did she. “We had enough lifeguards, there were plenty of kids in the water, and the gate was being watched.” Since our lifeguards at Tobey are schoolkids, the Pond has to close before Labor Day so they can get organized to go back to school. “It would be nice to be able to stay open,” says Kacasek, “but the main thing is that it went well and we’re looking forward to another good season next year.” No doubt, these kids will be looking forward too. They took part in Tobey Day on August 11 as an end of summer celebration. The theme was pirates, games were held and prizes given. As the saying goes, a good time was had by all.
