Christmas Services at Church of Christ
The Church of Christ Congregational will be holding Christmas Eve services December 24 at 6 p.m., service of lessons with carols, and 10 p.m. candlelight service. Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25 service will be held at 10 a.m., Christmas worship service and pancake breakfast in Battell Chapel
Craft Fair
A Crafts Fair will be held December 1, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of Christ Congregational at 12 Village Green, on the corner of Route 44 and 272. Shop for unique gifts, including crafts, gift baskets, local products, baked goods, jewelry, candles, cards, cookbooks, “green” gifts and Fair Trade items. Come hear Christmas music and enjoy a pizza lunch. Children’s activities will include building mini-gingerbread houses and craft projects. There will be a special visit from the Queen of Elves. Holiday Charity Drive
Raynard & Pierce Real Estate and Insurance are again proud to announce that their three offices in Canaan, Kent and Norfolk will be collection points for a number of Holiday Charities. Toys for Tots – new and unwrapped toys, books and games; Local Food Banks – non-perishable food items; Support our Military Families – store gift cards, grocery store cards, gas cards and international phone cards. Please bring donations to Raynard & Pierce in the Royal Arcanum building by Friday, December 14. What a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays!
Holiday and Closing Sale
The Norfolk Artisans Guild will be open every day in December from 10-5 p.m. with complimentary artistic gift wrapping. Local artisans will be on hand with home-baked refreshments and to help with wrapping. After 17 years of operation, a closing after-Christmas sale will be held during the last week of December.
Region 7 Bands Winter Concerts
The Northwestern Region 7 Middle School and High School bands will present their winter concerts on December 6 at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Numerous Norfolk students participate.
Christmas Angelicus Concerts
Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus will be presenting their Christmas Angelicus concerts under the direction of Nicholas White. Norfolk residents Kathy Griswold and Lily Johnston sing with the group. The concerts will be held December 8 at 7 p.m. at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, December 9 at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Washington, December 15 at 7 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal, December 16 at 4 p.m. at Hotchkiss School Chapel, and December 23 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Torrington. Brodnitzki Receives Milken Educator Award
Thomas Brodnitzki, son of Bill and Gerry Brodnitzki, has received the prestigious Milken Educator Award for excellence in teaching. Brodnitzki teaches high school social studies at the Metropolitan Learning Center, a magnet school in Bloomfield, Ct. According to the Milken Award Web page, Brodnitzki has “dramatically improved student writing through social studies,” and has “created a hands-on, project-based Advanced Placement geography class.” The Milken Family Foundation Educator Awards program provides public recognition and financial rewards to teachers and other education professionals who are furthering excellence in education. By honoring outstanding educators, the program strives to attract, develop, motivate and retain talented people to the challenge and adventure of teaching.
