An Evening of Wit, Wisdom and Desserts at the Coffee House

The Coffee House presents original works by local artists on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Battell Chapel on the Village Green. Come for an evening of live storytelling and poetry readings performed by the Norfolk Writers Group. Bring your family and friends for fresh coffee and homemade desserts and enjoy a special evening of wit and wisdom. A $15 donation at the door benefits Church of Christ Congregational. What Makes “60 Minutes” Tick?

Veteran CBS News producer Tom Anderson worked on stories for 60 Minutes for 20 years before retiring last year. He’ll share some of his favorite experiences and his insights on both the politics and personalities at the broadcast. The gathering, hosted by the Colebrook Historical Society, will be held at the Seymour Inn, intersection of Routes 183 and 182A, in the center of Colebrook.  All are welcome. Norfolk Land Trust Harvest Moon Walk

There’s a harvest moon in October? Learn more about why the harvest moon is late this year when you join the Norfolk Land Trust for a special evening hike at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, to the Dennis Hill gazebo. Star Childs will give a brief talk on the moon and what is visible in the night sky at this time of year. Please gather outside the gate to Dennis Hill State Park off Route 272 South. Bring headlamps or other illumination and dress warmly. In the event of inclement weather, this will not be rescheduled.

 

Celtic Music at the Norfolk Library

Patrick Ball, one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist, will present “Come Dance with Me in Ireland: A Pilgrimage to Yeats Country,” a musical and dramatic performance based on the life and works of William Butler Yeats. Playing the ancient, legendary brass-strung harp of Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, Ball will perform at the Norfolk Library on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. For more information about this free program, please call the Library at 860-542-5075.

 

Moors and McCumber in Concert at the Norfolk Library

Moors and McCumber will perform at the Norfolk Library on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. The duo create that rare chemistry that happens when two gifted singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists perfectly complement each other’s strengths, a modern day version of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.This concert is free, but reservations are requested.

 

Caribbean Movie Musical at the Library

“Bazodee,” the Bollywood-flavored Caribbean movie musical, will screen at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Set on the colorful islands of Trinidad and Tobago and pulsing with the sensuous dance rhythms of soca music, “Bazodee” is a fun musical with a distinctly Caribbean island flavor. Film producer Ancil McKain will be on hand to introduce the film. This is a free event, but reservations are requested.
