City Meadow Park Completed on Schedule
The project of turning the sunken wetland below Station Place into a pedestrian park has often been stalled during the past three years. There were obstacles along the way, unforeseen expenses and goofs galore. But at a meeting of the City Meadow Park Committee on Nov. 20, Chairman Molly Ackerly announced that the park was 99 percent completed. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for the second week in December.
The state awarded Norfolk a $500,000 grant in 2014 and has so far paid the town $360,000 for project costs, according to Selectman Sue Dyer. More reimbursements are expected in the coming month. The funds were set aside in an earlier budget year, according to Ackerly, and payment will not be affected by the state’s current financial turmoil.
Norfolk’s new first selectman, Matt Riiska, will preside at the ribbon cutting, scheduled for Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. near the park’s Shepard Road entrance.
