Library Restoration Project Nears Completion

Landscaping work will be completed in the spring

Director Ann Havemeyer reports good news from the Norfolk Library:“We are in the homestretch of our restoration.”

The parking lot pavers have been installed, and there is a now a designated handicapped parking space near the newly completed ramp, which was first utilized by a number of grateful neighbors coming to the library’s annual carol sing on November 25. There is now additional access to the library from the parking lot via a set of stairs leading up to the new side porch. Elsewhere, the previous trip-hazardous cement sidewalks have been replaced with handsome, smooth granite. Lastly, a finishing touch was made on the terra cotta tile roof over the children’s room with the placement of the Norfolk Library owl on its peak.

There are a few caveats to announcing full completion of the reconstruction, however. Some weather-dependent items will have to wait until the spring, notably seeding the newly graded front lawn and planting the side courtyard. Then, with the lawn in place, new outside lighting will be installed, which Havemeyer promises will illuminate the façade of the entire building and will beautifully outline its true scale and original striking proportions.
