 Tax Relief Programs

Beginning February 1, the assessor’s office will be accepting applications for the State of Connecticut’s Elderly or Totally Disabled Homeowners Program and Additional Veteran’s Exemptions.  Applications and information on all tax relief programs are available from the assessor’s office at 860-542-5287 or from the Town of Norfolk’s website at www.norfolkct.org.  Please contact the assessor’s office for assistance in completing your application or for more information.

 

Guess Who’s Coming to the Library?

Pete the Cat loves the Norfolk Library and wants to meet you! Come to the library on Feb. 3 (National Take Your Child to the Library Day) from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. to hear a story and rock out wwith this mischievous storybook character. Pete’s favorite snacks will be served. Bring your camera for a photo op and dress up if you wish!

 

Norfolk Library Classic Film Series

Explore Hollywood’s extensive pre-digital canon of fantastic films, forgotten classics and silent movies as the Norfolk Library classic film series continues on Thursday, February 8, at 7 p.m. with “Casablanca,” the 1942 romantic drama starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Come early (6:30 p.m.) for refreshments. Please call the library at 860-542-5075 to register for this free program.

 

Scars Upon My Heart: Women’s Poetry of the Great War

Please join the Isabella Eldridge Club at Battell Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m. for “Scars Upon My Heart,” a reading of women’s poetry of World War I. Refreshments will be served.

 

An Evening of Jazz with The Lucky 5 at the Norfolk Library

On Saturday, February 17, at 5 p.m., the hard-swinging jazz band The Lucky 5 will be at the library, blending swing and gypsy jazz to create a unique, foot-stomping blend of music. They bring verve and high energy to the tradition of jazz from the 20s, 30s and 40s and will keep your feet moving on the dance floor. Please call the library to register for this free program.

 

Stories and Dessert at the Coffee House

Join us for the next Coffee House—an evening of entertaining stories with coffee and delicious homemade desserts. This event will be held on Friday, February 23, at 7 p.m. at the Battell Chapel on the Green. $15 donation at the door. Call 860-542-5721 for more information.

 

The Norfolk Festival Listening Club at the Library

Jim Nelson, general manager of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and his popular Norfolk Festival Listening Club return to Norfolk on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. with a program featuring a Yale woodwind quintet. Designed to be fun and engaging, the listening club is an opportunity for both the experienced concertgoer and the classical music novice to enjoy an informal discussion of chamber music among friends. Please call the library to reserve a seat for this free program.

 

Bear Whisperer Addresses Norfolk Land Trust Meeting

The Norfolk Land Trust’s annual meeting, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Norfolk Library, will feature author and wildlife biiologist Ben Kilham, who has studied and interacted with bears for over two decades. With his wife, Debra, he has taken orphaned bears into his home, later releasing them into the wild. Reservations are recommended. Potluck Lunch

The Church of Christ will sponsor a potluck community lunch on Friday, March 2, at noon. Please bring a favorite dish and a friend. This get-together will be held in the Tiffany Room of Battell Chapel.
