Literary Liaisons at the Norfolk Library
The Norfolk Library hosts its biennial gala, Literary Liaisons, on May 17. The event honors ten contemporary American authors: Amy Bloom, Ellen Feldman, Frances Fitzgerald, James Sterba, Daniel Hecht, Verlyn Klinkenborg, George Packer, David Potter, Dani Shapiro, and Dennis Watlington. A gala cocktail reception for the authors will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The reservation fee for the reception is $25 per person. Following the reception, intimate dinners with the authors will be held in private homes throughout Norfolk. Those wishing to attend the reception and dinner should send a check for $150 payable to the Norfolk Library by May 1.
Norfolk Land Trust Spring Work Party
Join us Saturday, May 10 for our spring work party. Volunteers should bring hand tools and work gloves and gather at Town Hall at 9 a.m. The Norfolk Land Trust maintains over 16 miles of trails in town, and we could use your help with their maintenance. Call 542-1820 for more information.
Class of ’08 Car Wash and Bake Sale
On Saturday, May 24, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., the Botelle graduating class of 2008 will be holding a car wash at the National Iron Bank and a bake sale at the Robertson Memorial (the fountain in back of the Royal Arcanum Building) . Come and support this year’s graduating class.
PTO Gourmet Brunch and Marketplace
The Botelle PTO Gourmet Brunch and Marketplace will be held on May 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria at Botelle School. Adults will be charged $8 and kids get in for $5 (no family will be charged more than $25). In addition to a gourmet brunch including breakfast strata, fresh fruit, homemade baked goods, juice, tea and coffee, vendors will be selling jewelry and gift items for the whole family. A certified child safety seat inspector will be checking safety seats for free.
NVFD Memorial Day Activities
This year’s Memorial Day celebration begins with the parade at 9 a.m., followed by an open house at the fire department with coffee, doughnuts, juice & balloons. Registration for the road race takes place at the ball field on Mountain Road from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The race starts at 12 noon. The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department Explorer Post 952 will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs and sodas on the Village Green from 11:30 a.m. until the
race is over. There will be an award presentation following the road race.
Lions Tag Sale Seeks Spring Cleaning Treasures
The Norfolk Lions Club plans to hold a tag sale of various items in late June. Please look through your no longer needed treasures and put aside some choice items. Notices will be put up shortly describing where and when items can be dropped off and when and where the sale will take place. If you want to volunteer goods, storage, transport or time, call Bob Pam at 542-3999. We skipped last year’s sale, so we hope that there are especially wonderful things to buy this year.
Volunteer of the Year Dinner
The annual Volunteer of the Year award will be presented to Jim Hotchkiss at a dinner in his honor at Botelle School on Saturday, May 10 at 6 p.m. This community service award is presented annually by the Norfolk Republican Town Committee to thank the hard working volunteers who form the backbone of our community. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors, and will be available at the door or may be reserved by calling 542-6054.
