Costumes and Textiles on Display

The Norfolk Historical Museum ‘s 2008 summer exhibition titled “A Common Thread: Two Centuries of Costumes and Textiles in Norfolk,” is now open. A variety of different costumes have been brought to life in period settings which give the museum’s first floor exhibition gallery an exciting new look. Among the interesting items on display are Elizabeth Welch’s calico dressing gown, circa 1830; a Civil War-era day dress; the blue silk evening dress Isabella Eldridge wore to the opening of the Norfolk Library in 1889; and a bonnet covered entirely with straight pins. The Museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. through Columbus Day.

Lions Club Tag Sale

The Norfolk Lions Club will hold a Tag Sale near the Farmer’s Market at Route 44 and Shepard Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 21. Since no tag sale occurred last year and the Congregational Church is not holding one this year, the Lions are hoping to collect a good selection of items. Anyone wishing to contribute retired treasures should contact Bob Pam at 542-3999. Rebates For Renters If you are a renter over 65 or totally disabled, you may be eligible for a rebate offered by the State of Connecticut. Income limits for 2007 are $29,800 for a single person or $36,500 for married applicants. For more information, contact the Assessors office at 542-5287 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Habitat Home Show

On June 21 from 4 until 8 p.m. a fund raising event at Lime Rock Park is planned to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The theme is the “Habitat Home Show: Exploring Creativity.” Local artists and artisans, including some Norfolkians, will demonstrate their crafts. There will also be a live as well as and a silent auction. An entry fee of $25 will get you food, refreshments and wine donated by local restaurants. While viewing the items up for auction enjoy music performed by local musicians. Items for auction will include services for the home, art, flowers, and a John Thew weather vane.

Farmer’s market Invitation

The Norfolk Farmers Market invites community organizations, farmers and individuals to participate in its 11 biweekly markets starting June 7 at 10 a.m. For more information, or to volunteer to help, contact Lisa Auclair (542-5044) or lisaauclair@sbcglobal.net.

5th Annual I.C.C. Men’s Club Golf Outing

The Immaculate Conception Church Men’s club will be hosting its fifth golf outing at noon on Tuesday, June 24, at Quarry View Golf Course in East Canaan. The entry fee will be $90 per person, which includes green fee, cart, refreshments on the course and a buffet dinner at Geer Village following the outing. Highlights of the day include a bucket of balls for pre golf warm up at 11a.m., prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin and lowest score. There will also be a raffle and door prizes. Bring your own four or join one at the course. Funds raised will benefit the I.C.C. stained glass window restoration fund. To sign up send checks made payable to: I.C.C. men’s club to Russell J.
