Click! Photo Contest Winners

The Natural Resources Inventory (NRI), a subcommittee of the Inland/Wetland and
Conservation Commission Agency, in conjunction with the Norfolk Land Trust, have
announced the winners of their photo contest.
The contest invited Norfolk residents to submit photographs in six categories, with the
goals of illustrating the upcoming NRI report, and also taking part in the December art
exhibit at the library.
The photographs were judged on how accurately they depicted the photographer’s chosen
resource, and also on their artistic merit. The judges were Pamela Kinsey, Vint Lawrence
and Arne Rostad. Lawrence was happily impressed. “I was stunned at the quality of the
work,” he says, “it was all good, and we had a very difficult time deciding what were the
best pieces.”
The winners and their categories are as follows.
Animals: Leila Javitch
Plants: Adela Hubers
Geologic/Mineral: Sasha Childs
Land Use/Habitat: Eileen Fitzgibbons
Scenic/Landscape: Kathy Griswold
Historic: Sasha Childs
Best in Show: Kathy Griswold
A prize of $150 goes to the Best in Show, with all other winners receiving $25 each. The
Norfolk Land Trust funded the prize money.
Selections from these five photographers, plus other work submitted to the contest, will
be the subject matter for this month’s art exhibit at the Norfolk library. Art Committee
chair, Mary Fanette says the variety of work submitted was excellent. “Some of the
images were straightforward representations of the inventory,” she says, “while in others
you can see where the photographer worked at making a beautiful picture.” This balance
between ‘natural’ and ‘artistic’ is achieved in the show, says Fanette. “There is a nice mix
of artistic expression with documentation.”
The NRI report, which will document Norfolk’s environmentally important resources,
will make its appearance in draft form later this month. The art exhibit will be at the
library December through January. An opening reception will be held at the library on
Sunday, December 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.
