Norfolk After School Program

Winter Session begins in early February for kids in pre-K through 6th grade. Some classes to look forward to are: Newspaper Club, Secret Box Making, Cooking Vegetarian, Sewing and Crafts, Scrabble Club, Pee Wee Sports, intro to basketball and possibly a music class as well. Classes are 6 weeks long and cost $30. Scholarships are available. Contact Tina Olsen at 542-3994 for more information or to volunteer as a monitor.

Library Associates Sponsor Fireside Fridays

During the cold months of January-March, the Library Associates are hosting weekly gatherings before the fire in the Great Hall of the Norfolk Library from 3 – 4:30 p.m. Along with refreshments and conversation, special themes will include mahjong, bridge, backgammon and poetry reading. To end the lineup, there will be a repeat recital of the Trillium Trio on March 27. See the January Issue of The Owl or call the library, 542-5075, for the complete schedule. Community Groups: Expose Yourselves! The Norfolk Farmers’ Market is growing – and there’s opportunity for local non-profit organizations to enjoy free space for their causes. 2009 will find the number of markets doubling from alternating weeks to every Saturday, from June 6 through October 31. For groups looking to raise funds or simply to gain visibility, a generous donor has provided for three market spaces to be available each weekend. The Fire Department’s Valentine’s Day Dance

Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a Valentine’s Day dance on Saturday, February 14, (Valentine’s Day), from 8 p.m. to midnight at Botelle School’s Hall of Flags. Tickets can be purchased for $15 per person through a member of the FD or at the door. There will be door and raffle prizes donated by area businesses. It is BYOB and smoke-free. Funds raised from this event will be used to purchase new air packs.

Norfolk Land Trust: Local Woodlands

On Saturday, February 21, at 4 p.m., the Norfolk Land Trust and the Norfolk-Colebrook Garden Club will sponsor a talk by Mary Tyrrell, director of the Global Institute on Sustainable Forestry, which is part of the Yale School of Forestry. Her focus will be on our local woodlands: how they have developed and how they are likely to change. The Norfolk Land Trust has scheduled this lecture in conjunction with their annual meeting. American Architecture Program

Join us for a program presented by Thomas McGowan on American Architectural styles and their representation in Norfolk on February 22 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel on The Green in Norfolk. Enjoy live music with Liz Allyn and friends plus coffee, tea and homemade desserts. The program will feature Victorian, Second Empire, Italianate, Romanesque, Gothic and other styles.Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the Church of Christ Congregational. Summer is just around the corner

It’s that time again. The Library Associates gala cocktail party and auction is in the planning stages for Friday, August 28. President, Dorothy Pam (542-3999) is looking for volunteers to help plan and run the event. All the proceeds go to help support the Norfolk Library.
