A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on April 22 at Botelle School to unveil the 5-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system earned by the town for its designation as a Connecticut Clean Energy Community and for being the first Connecticut municipality to have ten percent of its households enrolled in the CTCleanEnergyOptions program. The solar array was provided by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF), installed by PV Squared of New Britain, CT and is valued at approximately $50,000. “These solar panels are just one part of the effort that we are making at Botelle School to be environmentally responsible,” said Principal Peter Michelson. “Each day, we announce to the school how many kilowatt hours of electricity the panels had created the day before. We have a link on our Web site that allows anyone that would like to see the current and historical production of the solar panels.” Norfolk presently has 109 customers enrolled in the CTCleanEnergyOptions program. The town can earn points towards additional clean energy systems by garnering more clean energy signups or having more local business and households install clean energy systems, such as solar PV.
