Townwide Inspection of Real Estate to Begin
The Town of Norfolk has hired Appraisal Resource Group, Inc, to perform the state-mandated 2018 town-wide revaluation project. The first phase of the project includes inspecting all real estate properties. The revaluation staff will soon be visiting properties to verify data on rooms, bathrooms, basements, attics, porches, garages, etc., in order,to update the assessor’s records if necessary. They are not interested in the decor or housekeeping. The data collectors will be checking exterior dimensions and construction data on all buildings. If no one is available when they visit a property, they will verify all the exterior information and take an exterior photo of dwelling for the assessor’s records.
Project staff members will begin canvassing the town in April. The process is done on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis. All staff members will carry photo ID and their cars will display signs that they are working for the assessor’s office.
The last revaluation was done in 2013. If anyone does not want their property inspected or has any questions they can call the assessor’s office in Town Hall at 860-542-5287 or email norfolkassessor@yahoo.com. Norfolk’s Assessor, Michele Sloane, and Russ Beaudoin, ARG’s project manager, will be updating the public as the project progresses. The project is scheduled for completion for the October 1, 2018 Grand List.
