Public Presentation for Nonprofits
On May 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sharon Danosky, president and founder of Danosky Associates, will talk about pursuing collective solutions to community issues, discussing how to assess a specific problem, how to identify potential partners in addressing it and how to reach the outcomes you want. Library Trip to Chesterwood
On Friday, May 18, the Norfolk Library is sponsoring a trip to Chesterwood, the summer estate of Daniel Chester French (1850-1931), sculptor of the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial. Our visit will include a tour of the nine-bedroom residence and French’s newly rehabilitated studio, showcasing his important works. There are formal and woodland walks throughout this 122-acre estate with contemporary sculpture and stunning views of Monument Mountain. Participants will meet at the library at 9 a.m. to carpool to the estate and return by 2 p.m. Please call the library to register: 860-542-5075.
Bird-Watching Walk in Great Mountain Forest
Break out your binoculars and join the Norfolk Land Trust on a spring bird-watching walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 19. Experienced birder Susannah Wood will lead the group on a walk in Great Mountain Forest. Meet at the Childs Center parking area for the West Gate at 200 Canaan Mountain Road in Falls Village. Please wear walking shoes and dress appropriately—it’s tick season.

Volunteers Needed for Memorial Day Road Race
This year is the 40th anniversary of the running of the Memorial Day road race. We are looking for volunteers that day to help with timing, water stations, setup and takedown. If interested, please leave a message at the firehouse (860-542-5021) with your name and phone number, or email Norfolkfiredept@sbcglobal.net. As usual, the firehouse will host an open house at the conclusion of the Memorial Day parade.
Local Artists Retreat Open for Applications
The Cabins interdisciplinary retreat is currently open for applications until July 1. Artists, writers, dancers, actors . . . creative people across all disciplines are welcome to apply to this collaborative retreat based right here in Norfolk.
