A team from the Norfolk Curling Club (accompanied by supporters) will be going to Utica, N.Y. this month to compete in the first Elisabeth Childs Challenge. Last year the Grand National Curling Club of American (GNCC) decided to rename the women’s ‘Five and Under’ competition in honor of Elisabeth Childs.
The Five-and-Under was established by the GNCC to encourage male and female curlers with no more than five years of curling experience, to be able to participate in bonspiels. The men’s competition was held last month at the Broomstones Curling Club in Massachusetts.
Utica was Elisabeth Childs’s hometown and the Norfolk club is delighted that her grandchild will be on the team and taking part in her first bonspiel. The lineup for Norfolk is Mary Fanette (Skip), Becky Purdy (Vice-Skip), Veronica Burns (Second) and Caroline Collins (Lead).
Good curling!
