Some Recycling News and a Few Reminders
Starting May 1, the Town will begin accepting all plastic food and beverage containers numbering one through seven. Until now the only plastic containers we could accept were numbers one and two. All containers must be under three gallons.
Here is a quick reminder of what you can recycle at the Transfer Station. All newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogs, white and colored paper, junk mail, cardboard, box board and egg cartons, milk and juice cartons, juice boxes, empty aerosol cans (non-toxic), glass food and beverage containers, clean aluminum, steel, tin, foil food trays and cans.
Do not throw any black plastics, Styrofoam or other foam containers into recycling. They should go into the trash.
The disposal of any medications should be as follows. It is important that you do not toss any unused prescription or over-the-counter medicine into the toilet. Keep the medication in its original container. If it is a prescription, cross out the name with permanent marker or remove the label. For solid medication such as pills or capsules, add a small amount of water to partially dissolve them. For liquid medication, add enough table salt or flour to make it an unsightly mixture. For blister packs, wrap the packages in multiple layers of duct tape or some other opaque tape. Then place the medication inside a non-transparent bag or in a container and throw it into the trash.
Please take a few minutes to complete the NW CT Regional Planning Collaborative’s survey by logging on to nwctplanning.org. The Collaborative needs your help to identify what would make village centers more useful to residents and visitors. Your input is important and appreciated.
Finally, make a note that the Annual Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hall of Flags, at Botelle School.
