Seven Students Win NVFD Scholarships
At the August 3 meeting of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, Scholarship and Road Race Chairman Ron Zanobi awarded a total of $4,200 from the William F. Kelley Memorial Scholarship fund to seven college students from Norfolk. Each received a scholarship of $600 to assist with the upcoming college semester. Several of the recipients were able to attend the meeting, where they shared with NVFD members the college they are attending and the major they expect to choose. The colleges included Penn State, Central Connecticut State University, UConn and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Pictured from left to right are Sarah Allyn, Carly Millard, Rhiannya Byrne, Adeline Hester, Morgan Daley and Ron Zenobi. Not pictured are recipients Reginald Denny and Alexander Machowski. Funds for the scholarships are raised from the proceeds of the annual five-mile Memorial Day Road Race, in memory of longtime NVFD member and fire chief Bill Kelley, who passed away in 1996.
