Memorial Service for Evan Hughes
Friends of Evan Hughes and Peter Ermacora are invited to a memorial service for Evan to be held on July 9, 2016 at the Church of the Transfiguration, Mills Way, in Norfolk, at 11:00 AM, to be followed by a reception celebrating the lives of Evan and Peter, at Battell House on the Norfolk Green.
The New Yorker Discussion Program at the Norfolk Library
The New Yorker Discussion Program is an opportunity for patrons to gather and talk about the articles, covers, poems, and cartoons in each week’s magazine. The lively discussion is moderated and lasts for two hours. Issues of The New Yorker will be supplied. Moderator Diana B. Loevy is a writer who facilitates New Yorker discussion groups and book clubs throughout Connecticut. This group will meet on three Thursday mornings June 16, 23, and 30 from 10:30 to 12:30. Summer Exhibition Opens at Historical Museum
Hidden in Plain Sight: Artists, Artisans, and Craftsmen of Norfolk’s Golden Age of Architecture opens on Saturday, June 4, at the Museum on the Green. The exhibition features a remarkable group of public buildings commissioned by Norfolk’s civic-minded patrons in the period 1880 to 1930, especially the details of their stunning artistry and craftsmanship, such as gem glass, art tiles, terra cotta and bronze sculpture, and steam-bent shingles. The Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.through October 9.
On Your Mark, Get Set,Go Read!
Don’t miss the Norfolk Library summer reading kick off with magician and juggler Scott Jameson on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. This summer’s theme highlights fitness, wellness, and health as we await the start of the Olympic Games. Sign up at the kick-off or anytime during the seven-week program. Special events are scheduled for Mondays at 6:30 p.m. with a Brazilian grand finale just before the opening of the Games on Friday, August 5.
Norfolk Land Trust Sponsors Trails Day Walk
As part of the Connecticut Parks and Forest Trails Day, the Norfolk Land Trust will unveil its newest trail on the Ells Crane property off Greenwoods Road East (just before Botelle School heading east, there is a small grass parking lot where the trailhead starts) on Saturday, June 4. Watch for the signs to park. Hartley Mead will offer a guided walk of the property starting at 1 p.m. Please wear waterproof shoes. Rain date: Sunday, June 5, 1 p.m.
Camperships Available for Camp Jewell
The Norfolk CT Children’s Foundation (NCCF) is pleased to again be offering Summer Camperships to Norfolk children whose families are eligible. These camperships allow Norfolk children to enjoy the experience of participating in one of the areas fine summer camp programs. Brochures and registration forms for Camp Jewell’s program, in Colebrook, can be found in the Norfolk Library, The Iron Bank, the Town Hall, at the Haystack Pizza Restaurant, the Botelle School office or by contacting Camp Jewell. Golf Outing
The Men’s Club of Immaculate Conception Church will host its annual golf outing on Wednesday, June 29 at Quarry View Golf Course in East Canaan. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. A $95 fee includes greens fee, golf cart, on-the-course refreshments and dinner afterwards at Geer Village. Children’s Art Camp
The Yale School of Art Children’s Art Camp will be held in the Eldridge Barn (by the brook) from Monday June 13 through Wednesday, June 15, 9 a.m. to noon. One of the instructors will be Jo Messer, daughter of Yale School of Art Director Sam Messer. All Norfolk children are invited to attend. There is no fee for the program.
Paint and Sip
The Immaculate Conception Women’s Group is holding a Paint and Sip fundraiser at the church’s Klauer Hall on June 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come and enjoy painting under the direction of an instructor who will walk participants through creating their own paintings.
