Love Letters Project at Norfolk Library

Each Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in March and April, everyone is invited to join a letter-writing group at the library. We will write to different groups each week, including senior citizens, soldiers and inmates. All materials will be provided, and families are welcome to attend. Lions Club at the Bistro

Join the Lions Club for live music with Grant Mudge and friends plus drinks and bites to eat at Infinity Hall Bistro on Sunday, March 11, at 6 p.m.

 

New Dance Class for Kids

A new dance class with Kristin Mudge for kids ages 9 to 12 will be held at Battell Chapel on Wednesdays, 3:50 to 4:50 p.m., starting March 15. The class will cover the basic techniques of a variety of dance styles and work toward a performance. For more information, call Church of Christ Congregational at 860-542-5721.

 

State of Connecticut Freedom of Information Workshop

Citizens wanting to understand their rights and town officials their obligations under the Freedom of Information Act are invited to attend a workshop conducted by Thomas Hennick, public education officer for the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission, at Town Hall, Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. Register by emailing twnnfksec@snet.net, subject line “FOI Seminar.”

 

Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Norfolk Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast at Botelle School on Saturday, March 17, from 7:30 to10:30 a.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for kids. Proceeds from the event will be used to support Norfolk’s youth through scholarships, eye screenings, sports and other activities.

 

Norfolk Land Trust Winter Adventure

Snowshoe, ski or hike to Beech Hill in Barbour Woods on Sunday, March 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. for hot cocoa and a campfire hosted by the Norfolk Land Trust. Please dress appropriately for the weather and follow the parking signs to the trailhead off Lovers Lane. In the event of bad weather, this will not be rescheduled. Church of Christ Easter Celebrations

The Church of Christ is offering three different Easter celebrations on Sunday, April 1: a sunrise service starting at 6:30 a.m. at South Norfolk Cemetery; a traditional worship service at 10 a.m. in the church; and at 11:30 a.m., an Easter Egg-Stravaganza, for families with children ages one to 10, in front of Battell Chapel. Film about Rachel Carson at the Library

In honor of Earth Day, join us for a screening of “The Power of One” about the life and work of Rachel Carson. Sponsored by the Conservation Commission, the screening is on Saturday, April 21, at 4 p.m. in the Norfolk Library. Call 860-542-5075 for reservations.

 

Save the date: “An Evening in the Tropics,” Aug. 24

Come celebrate “An Evening in the Tropics” at the Norfolk Library Associates’ auction, to be held Friday, Aug. 24. The event will feature both a silent and a live auction and will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Appetizers and libations will be served, and tropical attire is encouraged!

 

Deadline for Arts Scholarships

Completed applications for the Battell Arts Foundation Scholarship are due Monday, April 2. These scholarships are awarded twice a year to school-age children from Norfolk and Colebrook for the purpose of enhancing their education in the visual or performing arts. Pre-kindgarten at Botelle School

All children born in 2014 or on Jan. 1, 2015, are eligible for enrollment in our pre-kindergarten program for the 2018-19 school year. Please contact the Botelle School Office, 860-542-5286, ext. 200, if you are new to Norfolk to find out about our pre-kindergarten program and to make sure your child is included on our list for future mailings.

 

Concert at the Norfolk Library: Lunasa!

The Norfolk Library’s celebration of St. Patrick’s Day has become an annual tradition for fans of the Emerald Isle. Once again we will host a lively evening of traditional Irish music and fare with the all-star quintet Lúnasa, dubbed “the hottest Irish acoustic group on the planet” by The New York Times.
