Art Exhibit at the Library: Sergio Villaschi

Sergio Villaschi will exhibit his photographs at the Norfolk Library through the month of December. While his work includes landscapes and other conventional subjects, he also likes studio still life, where he can play with light and color to give a new depth, vibrancy and texture to his compositions. Villaschi’s work has been displayed in various galleries throughout Connecticut and New York and has won numerous awards. There will be a reception for the artist on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Norfolk Library Associates.

Mindfulness Series 

Miranda Lee continues her classes in December with the topic Presence. Sponsored by the library, this course is offered via Zoom on Fridays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Anyone can join at any time. Family Movie Night at the Library

Enjoy pizza and “The Muppet Christmas Carol” on the big screen in the Great Hall on Friday, Dec. 2, at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required by Friday at noon if you would like pizza. Holiday Festival in Colebrook

The Colebrook Historical Society will celebrate the upcoming holiday season with an open house on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a silent auction of miniature trees, wreaths, ornaments and other holiday treasures. Bidding will continue on the following Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the winning bidders can take their treasures home that day. The gathering will be held at the Seymour Inn, located at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A in Colebrook Center. There will be plenty of refreshments on hand, plus a bit of holiday cheer to drink and an abundance of holiday music. At 5 p.m. the CHS will continue its tradition of lighting the trees in Colebrook Center. For further information, contact Carol Lord at carol.9508@yahoo.com or 860-738-8244.

Let Us Eat Cake 

Norfolk’s star bakers will offer tempting confections to the highest bidders on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Norfolk Historical Society’s eighth annual cake auction, at 13 Village Green. Drinks and nibbles will be served before the auction. A $25 donation at the door and auction proceeds will benefit the Historical Society.

Children’s Film Festival Seattle 

After Christmas, two prizewinning series of short films will be shown at the Norfolk Library. On Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Thursday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m., enjoy a wide variety of animated and live action films from across the globe that will delight young and old alike. Special Holiday Program at the Library

Close the year on Friday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. with the exciting sounds of the group Taikoza.

Experience the thunderous rhythms of the Japanese taiko drums and the magical sounds of the shakuhachi and the fue (both bamboo flutes). Roughly translated, taiko means big drums—and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings: big drums, powerful rhythms and and room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual performance with colorful traditional costumes and dynamic motion. Bring the whole family! 

Save the Date: Coffee with Shakespeare 

Starting Jan. 3, on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Melissa Cook will lead a five-week seminar in the library on Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Please register for the seminar on the library website or by calling front desk circulation 860-542-5075 ext. 2. Melissa Cook has an M.A. in English Literature from Boston University, where she won the Graduate School Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

Save the Date: Trina Hamlin in Concert

Trina Hamlin will perform at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 5 p.m. Her rich, powerful voice, her harmonica playing, and her unique repertoire of ballads, folk rock and blues have earned her a steady national following.
