Battell Arts Scholarships

The Battell Arts Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications to support local students’ interest in the arts. Applicants must be residents of Norfolk or Colebrook, in grades 4-12, and studying an artistic endeavor such as dance, music, theater, creative writing or the visual arts. Applications are due May 4 and must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation. To apply please find the application at http://www.battellarts.org/apply. Mindfulness Series with Miranda Lee

Learn how to use mindfulness tools in your daily life as Miranda Lee holds her weekly classes on Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m. April’s theme is Mindfulness for Joy. Sponsored by the library, this course is offered via Zoom. Anyone can join at any time. Lions Club Scholarships for Seniors

The Norfolk Lions Club is offering scholarships to graduating seniors who call Norfolk home. Applications are available through the guidance office at Regional 7 High School by contacting Michele Derochick at MDerochick@nwr7.org. The high school also maintains an updated document about other scholarship opportunities on its website.    

Joint Chiefs Concert

The Joint Chiefs will perform at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. With Eliot Osborn on guitar, bass, and vocals; Louise Lindenmeyr on mandolin, button box accordion, and vocals; George Potts on guitar, bass, and vocals; and Diana Herold on drums and percussion, the popular band has been a linchpin of the Berkshire music scene for more than three decades. Earth Day Plant Sale

The Northwest Conservation District will hold its annual plant sale from April 24-26 at the Goshen Fairgrounds. To learn more or place a pre-order, visit www.ncwd.org/shop. The deadline for  pre-orders is April 15, but some plants will be available at the fairgrounds. The proceeds will benefit the conservation district.

Poetry Reading

Celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by the Monday Poets of Litchfield County on Sunday, April 19, at 4 p.m. The Monday Poets began about 35 years ago, when a group of women writers got together to air new work and share thoughtful feedback. RaineyDay Erwin Exhibition at the Library

The work of New York-based mixed media artist RaineyDay Erwin will be on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of April. In “Layered Time: A Series in Four Parts,” Erwin explores the world and the plight of our planet in stunning multi-media images. She began her career in the shoe industry, moving on to designing jewelry and wearable art. She has exhibited her work  in New York and Connecticut.                                                               

Yoga Nidra and Sound Healing

Lisa Pepino and Nancy Monk will lead a program of yoga nidra and sound healing on April 22 at 5 p.m. in the Battell Chapel. The suggested donation is $20. Yoga nidra involves a guided meditation that has also been described as the “yoga of waking sleep.”

Contemporary Dance at Battell Chapel

Join Garet&Co for a contemporary dance performance in the round at Battell Chapel on April 11 at 7 p.m. or April 12 at 2 p.m. The company will premiere the completed version of “All the the World is Green,” a poignant work exploring the intersections of  a fear and numbness in the face of climate disaster. Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Mark your calendar for May 9 from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. for the annual Lions Club pancake breakfast, which will be held in he Botelle School cafeteria. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For questions and tickets, call Sandy at 860-866-7923.

Lunch & Learn at the Library

The next Lunch & Learn program for seniors is scheduled for Monday, April 13, from 11:30 am. to 1 p.m. Jen Pfaltz and Pat Campbell from ECAD will speak about training service dogs. Registration is required as space is limited. Dance for Fun

A dance class led by Kristin Mudge has started at Battell Chapel on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m., no dance experience require. A $10 donation benefits Norfolk’s United Church of Christ. Please text or call 203 240-8813 to confirm the class schedule.
