Town Clean Up Set for April 25
Rain or shine, the Norfolk Association is hoping that volunteers of all ages will join the annual town clean up, scheduled for April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Garbage bags, gloves and suggested routes will be dispensed in front of the Hub at Station Place. “It’s an important day to spruce up the town,” said volunteer Marie Civco, adding that the event generally averages between 20 and 25 participants.
The good news is that volunteers can leave their bags along the side of the road road for pick-up. Unusual items—some years those can be as large as a refrigerator—are picked up by members of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department or volunteers with pickup trucks. Most common items are beer cans and the omni-present “nip” bottles. According to a database created by the Connecticut Mirror, more than 38,000 nips were sold in Norfolk in 2024-25. The town ranks 151 out of the state’s 169 cities and towns in per capita sales for 2024-25. The town received $1,618 from the surcharge on the tiny bottles.
