Church Auction – Online and in Person
Save the date for the Church of Christ Congregational auction to be held Sat. June 20 at Battell Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. with bidding closing promptly at 6:30 p.m. Join other guests for small bites and beverages and live music while browsing and bidding on vacation rentals, concert tickets, yoga classes, artwork from local artists, lessons , picnics, breakfasts, dinners and much more. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. There will be also be an online auction held for two weeks before the event. For more information, call 860-542-5721 or NorfolkUCC.org.
Sidewalk Sunday Needs Participants
As pop-up outdoor market is planned for Station Place during WIN Weekend on Sunday, Aug. 2. Non-profit groups or town boards or committees are invited to participate. Sidewalk Sunday will be a place where such groups can make themselves known by hosing a fundraiser, share information about their missions and programs or even recruit volunteers or members. Donna Davis Exhibition at the Library
The landscape oil paintings of Donna Davis will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of June in an exhibition entitled “Earth and Sky”. Formerly a high school/college math teacher and now a resident of Winsted, Davis has a studio at Whiting Mills. Please join us at a reception for the artist on Sunday, June 7 from 4 to 6 p.m., graciously hosted by the Library Associates.
Mindfulness Series with Miranda Lee
Learn how to use Mindfulness tools in your daily life as Miranda Lee holds her weekly classes on Saturdays from 9:15 -10 a.m. June’s theme is Mindfulness of Nature. Sponsored by the Library, this course is offered via Zoom. Anyone can join at any time. Pride Picnic
On Saturday, June 6 from 4-6 p.m. on the Green, the Norfolk Church of Christ Congregational will celebrate our LGBTQ+ family and friends at a Picnic for Pride on Sat June 6th 5-7pm. A FREE dinner of homemade chili and desserts will be provided.
Courtney Maum: Author Talk and Book Launch
Please join us on Tuesday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Library for the release of Courtney Maum’s latest novel Alan Opts Out. Courtney will speak about the book in conversation with WAMC Producer Sarah LaDuke. A resident of Norfolk, Courtney Maum is the author of five previous books. Lunch & Learn at the Library
Join us at the Norfolk Library for lunch and community connection. Our next Lunch & Learn program for seniors is scheduled for Monday, June 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Come learn about Norfolk in 1776 as Ann Havemeyer shares stories of our town during the Revolutionary War. Sound Bath with Lisa Pepino
Church of Christ Norfolk will present an immersive sound bath using the sounds of drums, bowls, gong, chimes and more on Wednesday, June 17 at 5 p.m. at Battell Chapel Press the pause button on your busy mind, let go of your worries and fears and journey to a peaceful sacred space that will settle your mind, body and soul into deep relaxation and a natural state of balance. Summer Reading at the Library
Join us at the Library on Monday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. for a Summer Reading Kick-off with Animal Embassy and meet real live examples of “Dwarfs, Dragons & Giants.” Children will receive their Summer Reading Log, and there will be summer dessert to share. On June 22, “Make a Book” with Hilary Van-Wright, and on June 29 “Design a Sweet Pea Trestle” with Erika Crofut. The theme of our 7-week literacy-based summer reading program, open to all ages, is“Unearth a Story” as we experience the joys of discovery and share our stories. Author Talk: Liz Bucar in Conversation with Pastor Erick
Author and professor Liz Bucar and the Rev. Erick Olsen of Norfolk’s UCC will discuss Bucar’s new book, “Beyond Wellness: How Restoring the Religious Roots of Spiritual Practices Can Heal Us” on June 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Norfolk Library. This book “draws on personal reporting, historical case studies, philosophy, and pop culture anecdotes to help you find ways to build more authenticity into your engagement with spirituality.”
Writing Your Story
On Tuesday, June 9, join Cheryl Heller and Natalia Zukerman for a two-hour creative workshop at the Norfolk Library beginning at 3 p.m. In this workshop, participants will step outside and into nature for inspiration, then translate their observations into writing short flash memoirs that connect the world outside to inner experience. Colebrook Historical Society Open House
The Colebrook Historical Society (CHS) will host an Open House on Sunday, June 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. It will be held at the home of the CHS, the Seymour Inn, at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A. In addition to plenty of refreshments, the 2026 exhibit will be unveiled, celebrating the 250th birthday of the USA. The Veterans of Colebrook will pay tribute to those who served in every war since the American Revolution. A special board will be an honor roll of Colebrook’s WWII vets. Now Open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., serving residents of Norfolk, Canaan, Falls Village, Colebrook, Winsted, and Winchester.
Clothes Closet
Open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. The Clothes Closet at UCC Norfolk is accepting donations of gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. We are always looking for sweaters to upcycle too. (Sweaters with moth holes or other damage? No problem!) Items can be dropped off at the Food Pantry at UCC Norfolk Tuesday – Thursday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the church office on Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department.
