That Sinking Feeling

A large sink hole emerged on a small bridge on Mountain Road on the evening of Sat-urday, May 16, requiring placement of steel plates and reducing the roadway to one lane just beyond the intersection with Westside Road. First Selectman Henry Tirrell said the repair cost will likely be the town’s responsibility, but that it is unclear whether a new culvert would be sufficient or whether the bridge will need to be fully replaced. The determining factor will be the location of the existing water main. Meanwhile, Tirrell said that work to build a new bridge at Mountain and Westside Roads is proceeding after a delay that required the construction company to drill through rock to place the final piling.
