Out for a Stroll
Members of the City Meadow Committee met on the move in October to assess progress in the effort to eradicate invasive plants and to populate the town-owned property with native trees, shrubs and plants. Pictured as they survey a stand of invasive cattails are, from left, Mark Burke, co-chair Libby Borden, Paul Madore, Molly Ackerly and co-chair George Cronin, taking notes. Work is largely paused until spring, but the committee sought to map out a strategy and reach consensus on priorities for the teams from Meadowscapes and Native Habitat Restoration. Even late in the year, swamp aster and American burnweed could be seen blooming against the colorful foliage of devil’s beggarticks and swamp rose.
