Construction of Norfolk’s new firehouse passed some important milestones in July. After delays caused by the default of a plumbing contractor, installation of radiant floor heating had proceeded far enough that concrete could be poured for the slab floor. That work started in early July and was slated to be completed by July 24, enabling erection of the exterior masonry wall at the rear of the new structure. “Things should move quickly now, at least on the outside,” said Firehouse Committee Chair Barry Roseman. As of the committee’s July 16 meeting, Newfield Construction had selected a new plumbing contractor, L&R Mechanical of Bristol. Higher contract costs will be covered by insurance. Roof trusses are expected to arrive on Aug. 4. That being said, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will not move into the new facility until January 2027, with final completion expected about six months later.
