Summer is flying by! I hope you have all had a chance to slow down and enjoy it. We
have been lucky to have had a really great one so far. Unfortunately, some of our
neighboring towns were devastated by the July 4th storm. Trees down, roads blocked
and power and utilities out seem like all-too-familiar things here in Norfolk. Our crew
was able to assist some of our neighbors, just as those towns have helped out in the
past when similar things have happened to us. We are fortunate to have good
neighbors in and outside of town.
The NRRA, the organization created with our neighbors to collaborate on trash and
recycling, has successfully kept the Torrington Transfer Station operating to process our
materials.
To add to our growing list of projects in town this summer, the Rails to Trails Committee
is excited to finally break ground on the first part of the Northbrook Trail in August after
being initially awarded the grant in 2023. It has taken many steps to get coordination
from various state entities, but they have stuck with it to get to this exciting moment. To
formally accept the grant funds and authorize the town to expense them, we will hold a
special town meeting on Monday, Aug. 3rd.

I will keep this month’s note short! Before we know it, school will be back in session, and
the leaves will be getting ready to turn. Until then, enjoy this summer in Norfolk!
