Norfolk’s Bounty of Fall Activities

By Henry Tirrell

The busy summer activities continue to wind down as we head into what we hope is going to be a beautiful fall. Whether it is the Norfolk Land Trust trail race (Oct. 4), the Tour de Forest (Oct. 17), the Haystack Book Festival (Oct. 2-4), the town bocce tournament (Oct. 18) or just getting outside and enjoying autumn in New England, there’s still plenty to do.

Now that summer is officially over I would like to thank Great Mountain Forest for the continued use of the Tobey Pond Recreation Area. For decades the town has leased the property for swimming in the summer and we hope to continue this for decades more. I would like to use this as a reminder that when the pond is closed for the season, it is closed for all. It is a beautiful place and we appreciate everyone respecting the rules and enjoying all of the other fantastic outdoor spaces that Norfolk has to offer throughout the year, including GMF, the Norfolk Land Trust trails and our three state parks.

In October there will be early voting at Town Hall. The information for these dates and times is available on the town website. There will be voting on Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween, until 6 p.m. Hopefully it will be a nice evening and the trick-or-treaters will be out on Maple Ave., so please drive safely and keep in mind that there will be staff working at Town Hall, as well.

The major infrastructure projects continue to progress as we plan for more bridge repairs and anticipate the upcoming winter. For now, enjoy the beautiful fall sights and all this season has to offer.
